Maintaining a blog is a great way to keep your audience engaged, increase traffic to your website, and build your brand’s authority.
However, coming up with new post titles every week can soon become a challenge, especially when you’re already juggling other aspects of your business. (It’s also a mechanical challenge — typing can be very tiring!).
Fortunately, there are plenty of tools to help you beat that writer’s block and rekindle your creative spark. Whether you’re struggling to come up with the wording for your title, or you’re just not sure what to write about next, the following websites can be a great source of inspiration.
Just keep in mind that not every title may be viable, and depending on the sophistication of the tool you use, some of the suggestions may need to be tweaked to make them grammatically sound.
1. Google Trends/Keyword Tool
As a blogger, you may have already spent some time using Google Trends or the Google Keyword Tool. These are both extremely helpful when it comes to identifying competitive keywords, and quantifying the viability of a chosen topic.
This can also be useful for coming up with blog post ideas as you can scan through trending topics for something that piques your interest. From there, you can explore related keywords, finding out what sort of searches are being carried out and the success of those searches.
Not only can this knowledge help you pin down a topic of interest, but it can also work with your overarching SEO strategy over time to bring more traffic to your website.
Furthermore, by exploring related keywords, you can quickly find inspiration for the wider content of your posts, or for follow-ups which you can use to build natural internal links.
2. FATJOE
The “Blog Post Title Idea Generator” on fatjoe.co is fairly simplistic, but it provides a good range of potential titles, most of which are likely to be viable. For example, when I used the keyword “jam”, suggestions included the following:
- 14 Cartoons About Jam That’ll Brighten Your Day
- Why You Should Spend More Time Thinking About Jam and perhaps my favorite:
- How to Sell Jam to a Skeptic
As you can see, while not all of these suggestions fit with the keyword, they can still serve as excellent inspiration for other titles, or simply be adjusted to suit your needs.
The tool is free to use, and on the same site you can also find a code generator for embedding infographics into your content.
With the ability to generate 100 titles at once, this can be a very efficient way to create an abundance of viable ideas for posts, plus a few reasons to chuckle along the way.
3. Ubersuggest
Another keyword finder, Ubersuggest is a handy tool for pinning down specific keywords and phrases and determining how to approach your chosen topic.
Not only can you see the search volumes of these words and phrases, but the site also provides an analysis of their SEO difficulty and CPC.
You also have the option of browsing the SERP analysis, which enables you to see which other posts have ranked for your chosen keyword, or a variant, and how they have achieved this.
While this site does not generate titles for you, it is a brilliant means of collecting inspiration and keeping track of new trends as they come into play.
This means you can create topical content just as it becomes relevant, making you a trusted authority within your chosen sphere.

4. Tweak Your Biz
The TYB Title Generator is a bit more comprehensive than those we’ve looked at so far. The sheer volume of titles produced tends to mean that there are significantly more misses than hits, and many of the titles are fairly vague, which may not be suitable for most posts.
Helpfully, however, the suggestions are separated into a range of categories pertaining to the format or theme of the title.
As such, you can quickly skip over any that are unlikely to be relevant to your keyword. Under motivation, for example, we have “Don’t Just Sit There! Start Getting More Jam”.
The really nice thing about this is that you can fairly easily put together a sequence of related titles which can really flesh out your content schedule. You may need to tweak them a bit to get the best result, but this is certainly a good place to start.
5. Kopywriting Kourse
The Kopywriting Kourse Idea Generator is a bit more limited than many of the others, in that it has a smaller pool of options to choose from.
However, these suggestions are separated into categories, which include some unconventional variants that separate this generator from most others.
You can download the generator in spreadsheet form, or add it to your Google Drive, so you can have it handy without needing to keep visiting the website. You can also add your own ideas, or even remove those that you know you will never use.
Each category even has a helpful description clarifying, in more detail, the type of post each group of titles is intended for.
6. Content Strategy Discovery Tool
This tool from Builtvisible is a spreadsheet-based news aggregator which allows you to see the top headlines for your chosen keywords, the associated URLs, and even the performance of those headlines.
The tool can show you trending topics, including hashtags, and can provide individual results for different platforms, such as YouTube and Twitter.
As a result, you can pick up ideas for your next post, while simultaneously keeping an eye on the competition and a finger on the pulse of your chosen sphere of interest.
7. Portent’s Content Idea Generator
Last, but certainly not least, is Portent’s Content Idea Generator. This one is a little more light-hearted, but still produces some great suggestions.
It even comes with humorous annotations, along with genuinely helpful tips about creating great headlines.
Going once again with our keyword, “jam”, here are a couple of examples:
- 16 Things Spock Would Say About Jam
- Why Your Jam Never Comes Out the Way You Planned
- How To Build an Empire with Jam
Not too shabby, all things considered. Portent’s titles are often a little more daring, but that can often be an advantage.
Just be aware that if you use a title that looks too much like clickbait, you have to be sure to back it up with some quality content, otherwise it can act as more of a deterrent than a funnel.
However, if you can make these titles work, you can build a reputation for producing entertaining and informative content that consistently breaks the mold.
Naturally, some of the results generated can be a little off, so not every suggestion will be viable. Nonetheless, you should be able to draw some inspiration from the results, and perhaps even gain a new perspective on certain topics.
If you’re feeling adventurous, why not take one of the more off-the-wall ideas and see what you can do with it?
These are the posts that can really shine, as they stand out from the competition, delivering something entirely unexpected, but are still useful and informative.
After all, who doesn’t want to know why content curation is like making the perfect sandwich? There’s nothing wrong with taking an unconventional approach, as long the quality is there and you can back up your assertions with a robust argument.
Wrapping up
If you’ve taken a look at these tools and been unable to generate any ideas, you likely need some more fundamental inspiration at the topical level.
It’s an odd suggestion, I know, but try looking at ecommerce businesses for sale — you’ll see a wide variety of product types, niches, themes, and rhetorical techniques.
You can also check out any blog content you find (it’s clearly not vitally important if the sites are being sold!).
Ultimately, whether you use the titles and themes suggested, or simply use them as a springboard for your own ideas, these tools are a handy fallback for those days when you just can’t seem to get going.
Furthermore, as time goes on, you will develop a better idea of the types of posts that resonate well with your audience.
This makes it easier to narrow down your options, and can even help you formulate a style for your content going forward.
This consistency is an important part of successful branding, so while you may be starting with a handful of borrowed ideas, these can form the foundations of your creative endeavors and set you up for the future.
