12 Websites Like Mathway

Mathematics will always remain one of the toughest subjects you will encounter as a student, yet it is one of the most important.

Despite its importance, a lot of students still hate it because of how difficult it is. In fact, many students even hate math-related subjects for the same reasons. But then, there are those who love mathematics and cherish solving complex problems.

These students sometimes sort for easier and faster ways to solve math problems, and alas, online solutions like Mathway aid in solving math problems and show the workings too.

Websites Like Mathway

In the post, I will show you a couple of other websites that can help you solve math problems step by step with solutions, and are as good as or even better than Mathway.

1. QuickMath

QuickMath is an online math solution that rivals Mathway in terms of features and capabilities.

It can be used to solve all sorts of numerical problems such as simple equations, matrices, calculus, etc.

Like Mathway, QuickMath is one of the most online math solving apps you will see. In fact, if you have ever had a need to Google math solutions, chances are that you have come across QuickMath before.

QuickMath can be downloaded as an application for easy access anytime you want to solve a problem quickly, however, you can do all the solving you need on their official website without downloading any application.

The app uses a multifunctional approach to calculate and present math problems step by step.

Using this solution is not complex. First, you will need to identify the type of problem you want to solve, enter the problem in the provided field, and press the action button.

QuickMath will in turn furnish you with detailed steps of how the problem is solved.

For example, if you want to solve a word problem, you first need to understand what it requires, whether it’s an equation, factoring, or plot. Then translate the word problem into mathematical form and input it on the site. QuickMath will do the rest for you.

2. WebMath

WebMath is an online math solution software created by Discovery Education to provide users with answers to specific problems.

Like Mathway, it allows you to select a specific category based on the type of mathematical problem you are seeking a solution for.

It does not require you to download and install any app. You can simply solve your problems online by selecting your category and entering your problem to have it solved immediately.

It is popular among students, especially as a homework helper, because it provides explanatory solutions and tools to aid in practicing numerous math-related problems from simple equations to complex calculus.

WebMath is easy to use and has a clean and straightforward design. It features an obvious toolbar at the top corner of the page that helps users navigate to different subject areas within the site.

New users should be careful not to get lost around the page because it also features a toolbar that leads to the Discovery Education site since WebMath is a subnet of that site. Also, the homepage is quite wordy, which can be annoying, but it is necessary for explanations.

WebMath may not have fancy graphics like you will find on other sites, but it rises up to the challenge of presenting helpful explanations to complex concepts.

3. Symbolab

Symbolab is a straightforward app that lets you practice math problems the moment you open it.

It provides solutions to your problems with well-outlined steps and can solve all sorts of problems ranging from equations, integrals, trigonometry, limits, and more.

This tool contains more than 100 powerful calculators that process math solutions faster. It also features an interactive graph to help you visualize your answers.

One area where I find Symbolab more useful than Mathway is that it can solve Chemistry problems like equation balancing.

The app features history and notebook pages to help you find your way back to previously solved problems. You can also generate cheat sheets for some topics.

Another amazing feature in Symbolab is its calculator capture feature. You can use this to take a picture of the problem you want to solve on paper. This feature is made possible through the machine learning algorithm that the software employs.

Symbolab is ideal for anyone interested in math and calculations, but it is more useful for teenagers and college students who need an app to check their work.

4. Microsoft Math Solver

Microsoft Math Solver is an online tool that helps to find solutions to basic and complex mathematics problems.

This tool is accurate and lets you find the precise solution to the math problem that you want to solve.

Unlike Mathway, this tool does not only give you the option of manually typing your math problems in the provided fields. You can also scan the problems with your camera and watch the app give you your answer in a matter of seconds.

This is possible with the aid of advanced AI embedded within the app that ensures that you not only get accurate solutions but also get them in record time.

If you do not want to use the camera to scan your problems, you can write them by hand or enter them into the built-in calculator.

Microsoft Math Solver is very easy to use and understand. It doesn’t just give you the final solution to your problem. It presents you with detailed explanations that can also include graphs, similar problems, and even video lessons from the internet.

This tool can solve a wide range of mathematical problems from elementary arithmetic to advanced calculus and even word problems.

You can bookmark a problem and review it at a later date without losing any data. The app also maintains a history of the past problems you have solved and you can go back to them any time.

You can also generate printable worksheets to view at your own time if you are tired of staring at your computer screen all the time.

5. Cymath

Cymath is an online solution that helps you with answers to math problems.

Like Mathway, Cymath provides step by step solutions to your problems for free. You can use it for a wide range of calculations whether it is graphical or complex calculus.

It has a similar photo feature to Microsoft Math Solver but also allows you to enter your math problem by hand like Mathway.

With this tool, you can quickly get familiar with mathematical procedures by studying how it arrives at each answer and building up knowledge from there.

You can perform factorization functions, logarithm, trigonometry, partial fractions, quadratic equations, and a lot more.

For the most part, Cymath provides you with free, step-by-step solutions to nearly any mathematical problem. However, if you want additional support, you can opt for Cymath Plus which costs $4.99 per month as of the time of writing this article.

This plan gives you more information on your assignment, such as how a step is taken and why it is taken. Subscriptions are usually automatically renewed at least 24 hours before your current payment expires, so if you grow weary of the app you can cancel on time.

6. Chegg

Chegg is an online math solver that is popular for its ability to process math problems such as algebra, and calculus, accurately and fast.

It has a nice interface and an obvious keyboard that lets you easily detect a wrong math question. Once you type in a correct question, it will immediately deliver the answer to you without delay.

I have used the Chegg app a couple of times to study for final exams and it has bailed me out from very stubborn questions more times than I can count.

Chegg library covers a lot more base than the regular Mathway app. You can access millions of fully explained textbook solutions on a wide range of subjects such as maths, physics, chemistry, and engineering.

The app can even assist you with the toughest business calculations you’ve faced.

You can also get solutions to handwritten questions with Chegg. All you need to do is take a quick picture of the question and submit it to the app experts and you will get a detailed solution in less than 30 minutes.

Chegg offers walkthrough videos for tons of questions, so you can get handheld explanations for some of the most plaguing calculation questions with a bit of classroom experience.

I really like Chegg for the fact that it gives direct answers and it is also a way for me to check the process of my work to see if I made a mistake.

Chegg is mostly free, but if you want access to its more advanced features, you can opt for the premium plan.

7. Photomath

Photomath is an easy to use math problem-solving app designed by Photomath, Inc. This tool was developed to let you solve math problems on your smartphone by simply taking a scan of the said equation with your camera.

The process to install and use this app is seamless. First, download the Photomath app on your Android phone from Playstore and open it on your device.

Then scan the mathematical equation with your camera just as you would scan a QR code and in a few seconds, Photomath will give you the answer to your question.

Unlike Mathway, Photomath does not have the option of manually typing in mathematical problems on the app, but the camera scanning solution is more than sufficient to solve your simple and complex problems.

You can solve problems ranging from algebra, trigonometry, calculus, and even statistics.

I have used this app myself a couple of times mostly for checking if my assignments are correct and trust me, the result is amazing.

It explains everything that goes on in an equation in a manner that is easy to understand. Plus it helps that the app is clean and elegant.

Apart from using the Photomath app to scan your questions for answers, you can still use the calculator that comes with it to perform some basic math.

8.MathPapa

MathPapa is one of the best online calculators for solving algebra problems that you will find anywhere. In fact, if you want to learn algebra on your smartphone, I wouldn’t look past this tool that lets you analyze the solutions step by step.

The app will show you how to calculate the problem and then present the final answer. So you can master algebraic problems with this app at your own pace and build a strong math base.

MathPapa doesn’t just help you solve simple algebra, it can also demystify polynomials and provide graphs to solve equations.

Like Mathway, the app has different categories of topics to choose from, but its emphasis is mostly on fractions, decimals, and percentages.

You can simply find solutions to your linear and quadratic equations and inequalities. The app can also provide answers to two-variable equations with the steps that it takes to reach the answer.

The app gives you access to practice questions to help you master algebra quicker and better. You will get examples of simple arithmetic problems, decimals, percentage problems, and more.

It doesn’t end there. You will also find many algebra lessons on the official MathPapa website to further help you build a stronger understanding of the subject.

These lessons are usually prepared with step-by-step solutions to problems that you may come across.

You can get the app on your PC or your mobile phone. If you want access to an ad-free MathPapa then you should be ready to part ways with $9.99 every month.

9. WolframAlpha

WolframAlpha is a popular tool among students to solve simple and complex mathematics problems.

It is a great resource for folks in college or high school to use. It uses artificial intelligence to solve mathematical problems even faster than a tutor.

The best part of WolframAlpha for students, and perhaps the worst for teachers, is that it is difficult to trace, so it is even more reliable to use than copying off a friend.

The tool works by taking a query, breaking it down, and then cross-referencing its different pieces against a huge library of datasets that keeps growing.

Using this tool is similar to using Google to perform a search, the only difference is that WolframAlpha gives you specific results rather than presenting endless pages of results as with Google.

Like Mathway, this tool is a one-shot process app. All you need to do is enter the problem that you want to solve and the app will furnish you with step-by-step solutions.

That being said, WolframAlpha has an advanced form called Mathematica aimed at those who require more than a one-shot answer. But Mathematica is an advanced academic resource on its own, so for the purpose of this article, I will leave my review around WolframAlpha.

It has a notebook form that helps students work through computations without learning any complex syntax.

With the notebook, you can save and use answers to previous problems that you have gotten on the tool.

The notebook style makes it more warming and especially valuable to students because being able to work out things in sequence and clear order assists them to engage with what they are doing.

Let me paint a clearer picture for you. Students like to try things in steps, and so when they take the first step and it doesn’t work, they can simply take a step back and try a different one. This way they can understand the output and see how everything fits together to a conclusion.

The WolframAlpha notebook also lets you keep text and structure inside. So you can add notes to your computations to explain what each line means if you want.

10. Tiger Algebra

Tiger Algebra is a cool website that helps you to solve your math problems. It is probably one of the closest to Mathway you will find on this list because of the way its website is built.

If you want to solve simple math questions, simply type in the problem in the provided field and watch the app produce answers immediately.

Tiger Algebra can also be used to solve more complex questions such as equations. In this case, you will get a step-by-step solution of how to arrive at the answer.

For example, if you enter an equation on the field, it will show you the solution, graph, and the steps before you land on the answer.

You can use this app to solve your homework or just for learning a couple of new topics.

I have used Tiger Algebra a couple of times and I rate it as one of the best Mathway alternatives, but unlike Mathway, Tiger Algebra cannot solve mathematical problems outside of algebra. Other than that, the platform is fantastic and covers all the areas of algebra.

11. SpeedCrunch

SpeedCrunch isn’t exactly a website like Mathway, but it is one of the most powerful scientific calculators and can be used by anyone. It is easy to use, yet still powerful enough to make it worthy enough to make the list.

This application is open-sourced and light, so installation is merely by unzipping and loading it.

Speedcrunch’s easy interface lowers the distraction on it. It has a single line available to type expressions. There is also an option numerical key that you would not want to use as much because it has a tendency to slow you down.

Unlike some computer applications, SpeedCrunch isn’t bothered by syntax. For example, 1+ and 1 + 1 is not often the same thing with many applications, but it means the same thing with SpeedCrunch once you hit the enter button.

This tool has almost a hundred built-in mathematical functions and about twice as many scientific constants. It also has a built-in formula book that houses important mathematical formulas such as the quadratic equation, area of a cone, etc.

You can store your own formulas and scientific constants within this tool and call them up to perform calculations at any time.

12. Meta Calculator

The Meta Calculator is a multipurpose calculator that is used to solve various forms of complex mathematical problems.

It is ideal for performing functions that the regular IOS calculator cannot perform and has the capability to process graphical and scientific equations, statistics, and matrices.

If you use an IOS device, then you know that your built-in calculator is useless to perform serious mathematical functions. At best, you will have various types of calculators to perform different functions, which is cumbersome.

The Meta Calculator is different. It is an all-in-one system that is equipped to perform all the major functions that you will require of a calculator.

It has a free version, which is made up of graphical and scientific functions. If you want access to the matrix and statistics part of this tool, then you will have to part ways with $1.98, or $0.99 for each, which I consider a small price to pay once you see the powerful abilities that the payment gives you.

The Meta Calculator has quite a number of advanced functions that go beyond the standard ones you will find in Mathway.

Its graphical interface lets you calculate up to five linear equations at once and presents data in easy to understand graphs. You can also save your graph by pressing a single button to be used at a later time.

This tool also allows you to store your calculations so that you can easily make reference to them at any point. So if you are looking for a flexible calculator to have on your mobile device, then you may want to consider this one.

My only issue with the Meta Calculator is that it has two separate in-house purchases, and hopefully one day, it will merge to become one.

Final Words

You can’t deal with every mathematical problem using your calculator and wit alone. Sometimes, you need a little helping hand to improve your productivity.

For me, that helping hand is almost always Symbolab, because not only does it save me a lot of time and energy, it is the most similar to Mathway on this list and it does not require a premium subscription.

Now, I have shown you 12 other websites like Mathway that you can use to solve any math problem you encounter, which one is your favorite among them?
